How does an ice-catch on a bong work?

When using the ice-catch provided in most modern bong designs(The three glass pinches in the center of your piece). You want to have frozen or store bought-ice and fill the bong with around 3-4 cubes, depending on the height of your bong. You want to fill your bong water to a height where the melting of the ice cubes wont end up overfilling your bong; Just empty the bong after every couple of hits while using the ice cubes. An ice catch diffuses and cools down a bongs hit significantly and is one of the reasons its good for a beginner to understand what the ice catch is, and how to take advantage of it.
